§What You'll Do
- Build AI red teaming systems that help government customers assess and secure their own communications networks and critical telecom infrastructure.
- Assess carrier routing, mobile core, and subscriber-edge infrastructure in explicitly authorized environments, with agreed rules of engagement and operational safeguards.
- Reverse engineer network firmware and management planes to reproduce vulnerabilities in isolated labs and produce actionable remediation guidance.
- Validate authentication, signaling, segmentation, and management-plane controls across protocols such as SS7, GTP, DIAMETER, RADIUS, and BGP.
- Turn findings into repeatable regression tests, verify patches and configuration changes, and measure improvements in network resilience.
§Requirements
- Strong experience with telecom or ISP infrastructure security: core networks, access networks, or carrier routing.
- Familiarity with carrier-grade platforms such as Cisco IOS-XR, Juniper Junos, or Nokia SR OS.
- Understanding of telecom protocols: SS7/SIGTRAN, GTP, DIAMETER, RADIUS, MPLS, BGP, and GPON/EPON.
- Experience reverse engineering network firmware or proprietary network operating systems and validating findings in controlled environments.
- Strong C/C++ or Python skills for security tooling, test harnesses, and automation.
- Sound judgment around test scope, service availability, sensitive data, and government customer requirements.
§Nice to Have
- Experience with mobile core elements (MME, SGW, PGW, HSS, or 5G equivalents).
- Familiarity with BRAS/BNG, DSLAM, CMTS, OLT, or other subscriber-edge equipment.
- Published CVEs, coordinated vulnerability disclosure, or remediation work involving telecom equipment.
- Experience with TR-069/CWMP, NETCONF/YANG, or carrier management protocols.
- Experience building with LLMs and AI agents.
- Background in government network defense, authorized red teaming, or telecom resilience programs in the UK or Europe.
§You Are
- Motivated by helping governments protect essential communications and critical infrastructure.
- Able to combine an adversarial testing mindset with disciplined scope control and operational safety.
- Interested in turning manual security research into repeatable AI-driven assessments and remediation validation.
For Recruiters
Note to recruiting firms: This role focuses on authorized AI red teaming and defensive validation for government communications networks in the UK and Europe. Prioritize telecom security researchers who can assess carrier infrastructure, communicate actionable findings, and verify remediation without compromising service availability.
